  1. Hello,

If I check the verify box after Nero finishes it'll verify the compilation but I want to be able to run the comparison independently of the burn process. E.g. I may want to rip with Decrypter and then verify the rip is accurate.

    Thanks for any help,

You can't. All the verify does is verify that the files it burned match the files on the HDD. It does not verify that your DVD will play properly or have any (real) other value.

If Decrypter doesn't report any errors, it has copied successfully. A bit varify won't succeed because DVD Decrypter will change file when it rips because it adjusts the PUOs. At the very least the IFO and BUP files will not match.

Do you have a reason to be suspicious ? or just naturally paranoid ?

FWIW, I have never had DVD Decrypter perform a bad rip, however this might fit the bill as a stand alone program -> http://www.snapfiles.com/get/viceversa.html

Don't know if Windows will let it read a CSS protected DVD correctly though.

  3. It's just that sometimes Nero will fail the verification pass if my laptop gets knocked during verify so I wanted some way of comparing what was burnt with the ondisk data in that event.

That tool looks great tho so thanks!

  4. Nero CD-DVD Speed will check to see if the the disc can be read.

You really need to be careful about knocking your laptop around they are delicate precision items. Even more so than desktops because of the way every part has been shrunk to save power and space. I've seen many laptops where the power connector ends up being loosened from the motherboard. I have also seen laptop power supplies damaged from pulling on the cable instead of the plug itself when unplugging.

The only true test is to watch the video.

Nero Burning ROM's verify feature is totally worthless. It often passes on bad discs, and fails on good discs.

  7. Thanks for all your comments. I don't sling my laptop around the room by any stretch but if I've set it aside on the coffee table while doing a burn, I might accidentally nudge it with my leg as I go out to the kitchen to get a(nother) beer.

Just so u don't think I'm a d0rk...or if u do, then not cuz I treat my laptop rough

Exactly! That's why I leave verification turned off. I burned like three coasters (CD not DVD) in a row before I decided to pull one out of the trash can and check it out and it played just fine.

DOS' File Compare works nice. Go to your command line and type fc /b c:*.* d:*.* where c: is your HDD drive letter d: is the drive letter of your DVD, replacing the letters if appropriate.

Of course, as somebody else pointed out, especially for video DVD, you need to actually watch it on the player you intend to play it on to be sure, as DVD players introduce their own quirks.

  10. You can run an ISO/Folders compare in DVDinfoPRO as well. Dunno how much faith to put in it, though.

[EDIT] You could always go check out cdfreaks. They got some true believers in scanning over there. :P
