I have a Canopus ADVC-55 that I use all the time. Needing to find out what real-time mpeg2 software does the best job of capturing in real-time to MPEG2 on the fly, for those times when I don't have the time to capture to DV then encode to MPEG2.
Thanks

Try the Mainconcept MPeg2 demo as a reference and compare to others you try.

I use Ulead Videostudio 6 SE which came with my USB capture device. On a 2.6Ghz Toshiba laptop with 512Mb RAM. No problems capturing PAL 720x576. Rubbish software but it works well.
However you always get better quality by capturing to an AVI using HuffyUV or MJPEG, then converting to MPEG2 in, say, Mainconcept MPEG Encoder.
I find the Mainconcept MPEG Encoder capture tool can't manage 720x576 on the same laptop.
