Hi. After a LAN party, all of a sudden no videos in any format will play on my boyfriend's computer. I've tried WMP, Winamp and Media Player Classic. I have the latest codecs installed with KLite and everything used to play okay previous to the LAN. A few new games were installed and a virus scan (actually several with trendmicro and bitdefender) were run and came up clean. I seem to get audio okay, but no video at all. When using GSpot it insists on telling me that none of the video codecs are installed. I can't seem to find anything to help me uninstall all the codecs and reinstall either...

I'm running WinXP SP2, on a dualcore machine with 1.2 gigs of RAM. The video files I tried were .mpg, .avi and .ogm. Flash-based video on google video play just fine. The new games installed were Alien Vs. Predator 2, Warcraft 3 with expansions (which I never got working), Total Anihilation, HL1 and Ghost Recon.

Can someone give me a method to troubleshoot what's going on? Thanks in advance.

There are a few apps that will uninstall codecs (codec sniper I believe is one). However, just go to Control Panel / Sounds and Audio Devices / Hardware tab / Video Codecs (bottom of list) / properties. From the properties tab you can check status or remove the codec.

I would uninstall any codec packs using add/remove programs, reboot, then go into the properties listed above, and remove whatever is left. Then install only what you need.

It is recommended not to use codec packs, just install only the codecs that you require as the need arises.
