Is there a program that will let me load my home made DVDs back on to computer and then re-edit with a program like Pinnacle Studio.
    Thanks

dvd decrypter. Or any ripper program really. Since its home made theres no protection to worry about.
Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw?

Try any other ripper. Dvd shrink for example. Also could it be a scratched disc maybe? Sometimes that makes it hard for a ripper to get the whole disc.

Wait, UDF? DVDShrink probably won't be able to read an UDF formatted DVD.

But then with UDF DVD, all you do is drag everything off the DVD and drop it onto your HD (metaphorically speaking)

  6. Pinnacle Studio will directly rip MPEG out of a DVD, at least in version 9.4.3 (the one I heve)so I suppose version 10.xxx will also do (wich doesn´t mean Studio is not a buggy and crash-happy prog.)

O.K. Trust me to pick the only DVD with a UDF file.

So I've ripped one of my non copyright DVDs to HD, and I have a Video-TS file.
It won't load into Pinnacle Studio.
    What can I try next?

You can try vob2mpg to get a usable mpg file.

  10. Try the VOB2MPG site again. The page came up for me just fine.

I have Studio 9.35 and it does edit mpeg2. So did version 9.1.
The "photoshoot" sample files that come with the program are mpeg.

What has been a problem for me is if I try to use a file that has AC3 audio, because I'm too cheap and stubborn to give pinnacle any more cash and activate Dolby/AC3 sound.

What kind of audio does your vob have?

Another thing you could try is to load the vob into VirtualDub-MPEG2 and then save it out as a DV-avi (install the Panasonic DV codec to do that easily) with PCM Wav audio, I've done that with some vob's that had AC3 sound, and they loaded into Studio 9 just fine.

    EDIT --- ADDED
Do you have MPEG2 encoding activated for Studio? It's free, just follow the steps in the help file to go to their website to get your free activation code.

didikai, here is another piece of information that might apply to your problem.

Studio 9.35 and below do not support progressive scan / non-interlaced mpeg2 / vob type files, only interlaced.
here is link to the FAQ

You might need to upgrade to v 9.4 if you don't want to re-encode your mpeg2 to avi.

    hope this helps

  14. TMPGEnc DVD Author can read straight from VIDEO_TS folder (or several) and Author a DVD containing anything from the source VIDEO_TS folders to another VIDEO_TS folder which can then be directly burned to a disc, even from within the application itself. I do it all the time.
