  1. Doing a little experimenting with current version of Simple DivX on a Win 98SE machine with plenty of RAM, HD space, speed (1.8ghz), etc.

My efforts crash every time with the following error:

MENCODER caused an invalid page fault in
    module MENCODER.EXE at 016f:004dc3b5.

    [end of error message]

The AVI created is about 80-85% of the length of the original, will NOT play in WMP 9.0, but WILL play in VLC.

IF I could get Simple DivX to complete the recode, I'd have a very good quality file--IF.

    Any suggestions?

What mencoder build is it using? Also can you post the command line?

Should also point out that despite the name if something uses mencoder, then that means XviD or libavcodec's own MPEG-4 encoder. If you want DivX, then you need to use something else, although I prefer XviD anyway.

  3. The mencoder build is dated 01/01/2006, possibly v4.0.2, from the DOS-window message that flashes by that I've been able to freeze if I'm fast enough to hit the "pause/break" key.

As to the command line, the details flash by very quickly when Simple DivX starts, but when I've been able to freeze it, the only apparent problem is "vcoder init failed ;( " and then the recoding continues as if everything is okay.

I do understand about Xvid vs. DivX, and prefer Xvid, too. It's just that the name of the program is "SimpleDivX" not "SimpleXvid" or I wouldn't have mentioned DivX at all.

Try one of my builds: http://ffdshow.faireal.net/mirror/mplayer/ that is assuming that you have a supported CPU.

I seem to be having the same problem, well, not exactly the same, but close.. apart from the fact that i am using Win XP SP2.

    Anyways...

I downloaded the latest version of "simpleDivX 1.40.25" and it worked fine once, and only once.

Now everytime i try and convert another dvd, "mencoder" crashes, i managed to get a picture of what it says (because it flashes up and dissapears so quickly)

    I can't work it out..

    Any Ideas ?
