  1. I have a movie in 23.976 fps, should I use 3:2 pulldown? Because I have subs for it, will they get out of sync if the movie will playback at 29.97 fps if I use "3:2 pulldown at playback"-option in my encoder?

I would rather not re-sync my subs which play fine with the movie in 23.976.
But as I want to make a DVD of it, what should I do? Is the pulldown even necessary to play the mobie in my standalone DVD-player?

    Thankful for help!

  2. Hi-

If making an NTSC DVD from it, yes.

    No.

Yes, plus you can't author for DVD anyway without having a compliant video, which means 29.97fps for NTSC.

  3. Thanks for a fast and good reply.
I use TMPGEnc. What options should i check in the checkboxes?
    "3:2 pulldown"?
    "inverse telecine"?
    "do not frame rate conversion"?

Please help me once again as I have never had to use these options before.
    Thanks!

  4. Sorry, but I don't use TMPGEnc. Someone else will have to advise you.

It won't be the Inverse Telecine option though, as your framerate is already 23.976fps.

  6. Set Encode Mode to "3:2 pulldown when playback."

Set Frame Rate to "23.976 fps (internally 29.97 fps)".

Standard definition NTSC TV supports only one format: 59.94 fields per second. If your file is 29.97 frames per second it is sent as two fields (2 * 29.97 = 59.94). If your video is
23.976 frames per second the DVD player alternates between sending each frame for 2 fields and 3 fields, an average of 2.5 fields (23.976 * 2.5 = 59.94). In both cases the overall running time is not changed.
