I hope I am not messing up but for the life of me I don't know where to post this but after reading several solutions from edDV I thought I would try here. My origional post is in hardware/DVD recorders but maybe wrong place. edDV, HELP! I have a video I have got to get out or I am a dead man!
    Problem:
Captured video. Imported into PremierePro 1.5. Edited. I would normally output to Philips DVDR75 external recorder from PP timeline. The recorder is now dead. Every new external recorder I connect to the 1394 port fails to mount so I cannot get access from PremierePro timeline to record to DVD. I did this over 100 time with old Philips DVDR 75. What am I missing? What am I doing wrong?
Last recorder was LG RC199H and as soon as I connect it to computer I hear the audio prompt from XP like it is mounting new device then on the pass-through monitor the recorder sends prompts updating the information, uncontrolable device, not connected to camcorder, the XP audio prompts like it is unmounting.

I am about to go nuts!

I don't use Premier Pro so aren't sure of the exact details of how to do it and the terminology, but why don't you export the timeline as a DVD compliant mpeg2 file. Then use something like TDA to author to DVD files and burn with your burner? As you would normally output to your external DVD recorder I suspect you aren't worried about menus or anything fancy so it shouldn't be complicated.

Thanks for the reply! I try to avoid conversion when I can due to the time needed. In the scenario I listed a quick render of the timeline and out in real-time to the DVD recorder is great if you are not looking for high-end quality. Another advantage is that having the output monitor (or TV) connected to the recorder you can see ahead of final out to DVD what you are going to get. (Plus it's great when scrubbing!) I use the timeline render a lot for proof edits. They are quick. Once the final is approved I go for Encore or DVD Studio. It's this stupid 1394 issue that's driving me crazy. It seems like the answer is there right in front of me and I can't "see" it.
And thanks once again for the response! Any post is greatly appreciated from anyone! I just saw edDV had run into some of these issues. I may have not dug deep enough into the archives.

I have no experience with DV IEEE-1394 out from Premiere or Vegas to an external DVD recorder so hopefully others can help.

I have an idea what is going on. I think the Philips is set to just accept the DV stream with device control disabled. Device control allows a camcorder to be shuttled and cued to an in or out timecode.

I suspect the other DVD Recorders are trying to control the nonexistant camcorder and timing out when the machine doesn't respond to commands. Premiere won't respond to these commands.

See if there is a "device control" or "machine control" On/Off switch associated with the IEEE-1394 in the DVD recorder setup menus. Device control should be off.

PS: A workaround may be to dub the Premiere timeline to a DV camcorder and then let the DVD recoder play around with the camcorder.

Thanks edDV! I think you are dead on right about the device control and so far on the LG I don't see anything. I am going to post to LG on that thought. Maybe a hack of the firmware! The work-around you mentioned is the reason I just dropped a bunch of bills for a Canopus TwinPact100 converter plus the fact I can take in analog/DV in or out (supposedly) .
    Many thanks for the suggestions!
    btw;
How would you have posted this?
I hate multi-posting or posting in the wrong forum.
If you or anyone have any other ideas, please...POST!

I'm not a mod, but it seems this topic overlaps "DV/HDV", "Editing, cutting and joining" and "DVD Recorders".

Probably closest to 'DV and HDV'. If you want to move it, PM me. If not, it's OK here.

BTW, In the future, I would ask that you would make your topic title one that reflects the contents of your post. A post title like 'edDV Help!' tells noting about the subject of the post and makes it impossible to search for your topic. I will change it for you this time.

    Well,
Here's an update for anyone interested. I went to my log file and checked the dates I tried to connect the recorder and had errors listed there. (Btw, if you need to know where this is, go to settings, control panel, administrative tools, event viewer, and application.) I took the info (WMIAdapter "Open of service failed" and searched the web. I found one instance where the info said I need to turn on the service. I did and nothing. It occurred to me about the same time I had the problems start I had shut down some services for better system response. Folks, use more care than I did if you turn off a service to WRITE DOWN what you did! Anyway, I found an article about 1394 function errors and notice one about Video recorder/VCR drivers. It said there might be confusion in the drive or loading under 1394. It said to check under Sounds and Audio Devices in the tab video to see if 1395 video was trying to mount there and instructions to correct. This was not the problem. I tripped across what I am hoping is the issue but still trying to figure it out. Anyone who can help with this, much appreciation! I had the Device Manager open and plugged in the recorder and was looking to see it I saw a device mount as 1394. I didn't but I noticed the list move a few seconds later. I expanded the manager full screen and found that during plug-in of the recorder a folder appeared above the listing, "Computer" named 61883 Device Class. After a few seconds it would disappear. The recorder was requesting 61883.sys and it wasn't loading. That's where I stand at the moment. I'm looking for info now. Ideas Let me know.
