The HC1 outputs MPEG2 HD material. This is DIRECTLY acceptable to such HD authoring apps as UleadMF5 (and HD & BD in general), as long as the A+V streams in the Transport Stream container have been remuxed into a Program Stream first.
There are a couple of recent threads about this very thing.

Note: remuxing does NOT convert the A+V material, just re-wraps them. -
The more general answer to the headline question: HD and BD have similar approved encoding standards that all players must play. These include MPeg2 program streams in 1080p/1080i (1920x1080, 1440x1080, 1280x1080) and 720p (1280x720).
Both also support advanced MPeg4 based codecs, specificaly AVC H.264 and VC-1 in various resolutions.
I read recently that BD only supports HDV 1440x1080i with h.264 or VC-1. I'm not sure if this is right. I thought direct conversion to MPeg2 program stream was allowed without first scaling HDV 1440x1080 to square pixel 1920x1080. Authoring detail is scant.
