Hi,
I gave up on archiving my copy of Fargo. I ripped the widescreen side using Smartripper, ran it through dvd2avi and encoded with TMPGEncoder. I tried all different settings but the VCD is still full screen and everything is squished. It is watchable but since Fargo is one of my favorite movies I wanted a GOOD vdc backup.
If anyone can make any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
~dev

two things to change in TMPGEnc - Settings / Advanced:
Aspect ratio: 16:9 Display
Video arrange: Full Screen (aspect ratio 2)

Use FitCD (you find under tools) Load up your movie under mpeg resizing. select your setttings (read the help file). In tmpgenc under advanced settings choose 1:1 vga and under video arrange method choose center (custom size) and enter the resizing FitCd calculated for you.
Good luck

Sefy's suggestion worked great. I never used Aspect ratio: 16:9 Display, before.

i find myself using "center (custom size)" more and more, since there are times, many times, where the aspect ratio on the final MPEG's playback is "off" when using video arrange method "full screen (*)", no matter what aspect ratio i use for the source (always 4:3 on output aspect ratio). using the video arrange method of "center (custom...)" allows me full control of the final mpeg's output/playback, even with 352x480 XVCDs. i've even redone some older XVCDs to correct aspect ratio's which were slightly off.
p.s. redoing XVCDS?! i've gotta find another hobby!!
