i have been trying to convert a film to vcd using winavi but everytime i try it copies it upside down can anyone help me or can anyone suggest a different coverter to try i have never had this problem before

Try WinAVI support. They are forever spamming here to tell us how good they are.
Otherwise, ditch the piece of crap and get a better encoder. If you are only doing VCD, then the free version of tmepgenc encoder will do a great job. You get mepg2 encoding for two weeks, and after than, mpeg1 only, which is all you need for VCD. And it is a much higher quality encoder than WinAVIRead my blog here.

In the advanced seting,there is an option you can flip picture upside down.
