dvdshrink won't insert chapters. Its strictly ripping/transcoding.

You have to reauthor it to introduce chapters. Check the tools section on the left for authoring tools. Dvd author gui is a free one. Tmpgenc Dvd Author is an excellent pay program to author dvds.

dgmpegdec can split it into m2v and mp2 files (video and audio). I haven't used it personally but it says it can demultiplex mpeg files. If it doesn't read vob directly you can use vob2mpeg to turn your vobs into mpg files again. (demultiplex means to split the audio and video into seperate files).

You use dgmpegdec to get to the m2v and mp2. Then you put those into dvd author gui and that will make your dvd for you (the vob files).

I don't know I've never used it. I use tmpgenc to demux. I suggested dgmpegdec because its freeware.

That sounds like it would the right way to go. You can only find out by trying (or read the manual )

Yes. I hope you're using DGIndex for this. It'll give you the M2V and the AC3 (or whatever) audio, which will have the delay (if any) listed in the name. Make sure you account for this delay when authoring.
