I dusted off my copy of dvdauthorgui in hopes of finding a program that does video backgrounds for menus well.
I figured everything out fairly quickly as its a nice program layout. However I'm stumped on the buttons. I found the preinstalled buttons in its directory. Very simple but effective.
BUT what I want to do is to use plain text to name my two buttons I will need. I see you can use a jpg as the background. That would be really easy to design your own buttons and such. However I want to do this over a video that will loop. I can create the size of the box for the button simple enough. What I want to know is how to fill it with text. If I were to use a paint editor to edit the preinstalled buttons they would be VERY small to read on a tv.
I just want two boxes saying the names of the two episodes I'm putting on the disc. How can this be done? I understand there is a 4 bit restriction in dvdauthorgui. I'm fine with that since all I want is text. This is one serious advantage full fledged authoring programs have like tda - all you have to do is click on the word title and edit the title name. That is what I'm looking for.
My design is simple:
TITLE OF SERIES
EPISODE NAME
EPISODE NAME
That's all I need over the video that will play. What's the simplest way for a text only solution? Thanks in advance.![]()

Hi yoda313!
As well as using the superb Gui For DVDAuthor by Borax, try my procedure for making DVD motion menus (Can be used either in DVDAuthorGui, DVDStyler or Gui For DVDAuthor):
- Create a text .bmp using the freeware IrfanView (If you do not have it, google and get it) with your text. You can also use the freeware FontMagic which renders text into .bmp and .avi. FontMagic allows you to create beveled texts with different textures and colours.
- Using VirtualDubMPEG open your background videoclip, load the VirtualDub filter 'Logo' and overlay your text .bmp on it. (So easy, that no further explanation is required).
- Export the edited video using your favourite codec (VirtualDubMPEG will output a .avi file).
- Encode this new .avi file to .mpg using SUPER (or your favourite mpeg encoder).
- Load this new .mpg file into your DVD project for authoring.
That's all
Enjoy! -
Hi again yoda313!
Just to show you two sample labels created with FontMagic (.bmp files with black background to enable transparence effect with the VirtualDub filter 'Logo').
I hope you like them!
