I have a few divx movies on my PC. The movies are actually widescreen movies but it seems tht the person who has encoded the movies hasnt resized them properly. If the movie was true widescreend then the height width ration would be approximately 1.78. Right? When i want to watch the movies on my PC is has manully set the option "Stretch to 1.77". Is there a way in which i could just resize the DivX movies so that my height width dimensions are that of a widescreen movie.

Use any divx video converter like virtualdub, autogk, avi recomp, dr. divx or the divx converter and reconvert the divx.

Hi-

Not usually. There are very few true 1.78:1 movies. Almost none. TV movies, yes. TV shows, yes, but made-for-theater movies, not too many. And widescreen comes in all kinds of ARs, the most common being 1.66:1, 1.85:1, 2.35:1 and even greater. If they were never cropped (the black bars still remain) and they were originally 16:9 DVDs, then they'll all be 1.78:1, but that would be evidence of serious encoder incompetence. It's also possible that the encoder(s) didn't resize, either purposely or stupidly, and what you say is correct, and unless you have your player to resize for you, you'll have to reencode, as Baldrick suggests.
One person made all these movies that don't play right for you? Unless you're sure about that, and you're just downloading whatever you want, and many different people created them, then I'd be more likely to suspect your player as being the culprit. So, I would suggest using a real player, such as Media Player Classic or VLC Player.
What are some of the resolutions of the movies that don't play correctly for you? You can get the dimensions from GSpot.
