  1. I am very new to this whole arena, So excuss me for this stupid question. I have seen alot of people talking about TMPGEnc. I am confussed as to what it is and what it does. I just got my camcorder and burned a couple of VCD, using Ulead to convert and Nero to burn the vcd. Can some tell me what TMPGEnc is used for, is it something to bypass the process I'm currently useing or is it something in addition to what I'm currently doing. Also I noticed everyone saying it's freeware...Where do I get it...

This forum is to help people just like you. All of us were once in your shoes.

You'll probably want to read the column to the left marked "Capture". There you'll find a complete write up on TMPGEnc, along with a link to download the software.

TMPGEnc is a conversion utility. It converts files (such as DIVX files) into MPEG-1 format. Once in MPEG-1 format, burn them to VCD with Nero. TMPGEnc also has some other nice features, such as file splitting and merging.

Since you're using a camcorder that outputs MPEG-1 files, you probably don't need TMPGEnc unless you want to split or merge some of your videos.

But if you have a DVD ripped to DIVX and want to make a VCD out of it, TMPGEnc is the tool to do it.

Like I say, read the columns and you'll understand.

    Good Luck
