Where should I start?

I've been coming to this fantastic website for a while now trying to absorb the information but am kind of finding it overwhelming. I succesfully burned a VCD using Nero the other day and am currently trying to find a DVD player to test it on to see how it works.

I am really interested in trying to learn how to get the most out of the CD media type with a DVD player. Thus looking at the differences between VCD, SVCD and X(S)VCD. Which seems to be somewhat exmplained. However when I go to the authoring section it seems the VCD&SVCD burns have the same information as the XVCD&XSVCD. I want to try doing chapters & menus and swapt audio. The whole ball of wax but I don't know where to start. Are there any example projects out there that can be taken and burned to prove each concept? i.e. i have been reading about some DEMOVCD that has XML script to section chapters. Where can I get that?

under the tutorial/guides on this website, you can find demos to burn...images and whatnot.

hate to be stupid but what tutorial/guides section are you taking about? all i can find is the VCD links at the top left that have pictures on what settings to pic put they all look the same. I can't find the demos you are talking about.

Can you help me further?,

check out the blue guys to the uppler left left. about half way down the page is the title "VCD Sample" on the vcd one. the other also have similar titles. anyways, there are images you can download. these images are actual vcd or svcd or xsvcd or miniDVD samples in either cif, nrg, or bin format. just burn and go!
