    I have several small video files (.avi) that I want to be one long watchable file. Can anyone tell me the easiest and simplest software used to put them together and save?
    Thanks.

    If they all have the same specs (same resolution, framerate and audio settings) then you can just append them with one of the virtualdubs and save using direct stream copy.

    If they are different then you either need to use an editor, or perhaps look at avisynth.

    They are all the same type - but I'm not sure what you mean by the above I'm afraid.

    in virtualdub, select
    file->open avi and open the first avi
    file->append avi for the rest of the avis
    video->direct stream copy
    audio->direct stream copy
    and last file->save avi
