Im getting intermittent flickering when capturing (ok, downloading!) from my DV camera to my pc.

    Details as follows:

    Panasonic NV-MX300

    Intel 2.4Ghz
    800Mhz FSB
    3GB RAM
    2 x SATAII 160GB drives
    1 x 15K 38GB SCSI drive (with Adaptec controller - only in 32bit mode)

I can see the flicker in the software, but not on the cameras built in LCD, so I don't think it's the camera. Tried several different tapes, still same result.

I'm downloading to the PC (tried all three drives, all the same result) using adobe premier elements 2.0. I've turned off all the "unwanted" xp stuff (using msconfig), virus software, remote desktop, office indexer, etc.... still the same erratic results.

Any ideas? Could it be the firewire card? No other devices plugged in to the firewire, just the camera..

I've hooked the camera up to the TV and no flickering there.....

    Any idea would be apreciated.

Are you sure Premiere Elements is in capture to DV format mode?

Describe where you are seeing flicker. On the computer monitor? On the TV?

Do you see flicker if the dv.avi file is played back with Windows Media Player or VLC?

Encode a test DVD, play back with a standalone DVD player and see if it flickers on the TV.

    Thanks for your reply.

    To answer your questions:

    YES

No flicker if I plug camer in to plasma using s-video cable. Can see clicker on the preview screen in premiere

Yes, in premiere and if I export to MPG (PAL or NTSC), I see flicker.

Haven't done this lately, but same result on some other movies I did a while ago.

Here are some pics if you are interested...

Premiere Elements should be correct for DV format capture over IEEE-1394 but I can't test it here.

One free alternative is WinDV. Capture with that and then import the resulting DV-AVI file into Premiere Elements and see if that makes a difference in the final DVD played to TV.

I won't be able to respond again until the weekend. Good luck.

Here's the wost part. Same machine, Windows Vista on a partition, works fine with Windows Movie Maker!!!!

    Also works ok with WinDV.

Only thing I can think of that was different was I was using the camera only on the battery (not via the mains power) this time. I'll try this on the XP version and post again...
