Basically I am trying to take recorded TV shows edit out the commericals so I have been using womble Video Wizard DVD to remove the commercials and to trim 5 pixels off of the top because for some reason (I think my DVR box) there is a white line that runs right across the top of my video. Nothing complex at all.

Everything is great except my once 4 GB DVD goes down to something like 1.8 GB. I thought this was kind of odd that the size would be that low. I know it will be cut down a bit becauise the comercials are removed but is that much normal? Im only editing out approx 20 min of the 60 min show... Is there some where in Video Wizard DVD to adjust the encodong? Ive looked every where but I may be missing it.

If not can someone suggest some other software I can use thats easy to trim 5 pixels off of the top and still get a quality encoder?

    thanks

20 out of 60 minutes is 33%. And 1.8gb is close to 33% of 4.4gb It looks about right to me...

But he's removing 20 out of 60 so he should be left with 66%.

If you are only playing your videos on your TV then the "white line" should be in the overscan region and you wouldn't see it anyway, hence no reason to crop.

If you crop then MVW is re-encoding every single frame, obviously at a lower bitrate than your capture since the size is being reduced. This is lowering the quality somewhat and taking much longer to process. You can adjust the bitrate when you export under the video tab.

By removing the white line you are also removing closed captioning that might exist.

It doesnt show on the TV during recording from DVR to DVD, but it shows up when I playback the DVD. So its not in the overscan region and I have no choice but to crop it. Unfortunately I could never figure out in the software where to adjust the bit rate, at least for converting directly to DVD format (VOB).

    Im not worried about this.

Ive searched around and there are some many software packages out there but Is there any other software out there that can easily do the crop simialr to WVD?

    Thanks for all your replies!
