What is the most recommended video capture tool?

I have a Capture Video tool from the Easy Media Creator 8 bundle, but it always crashes in two seconds in recording. What is the best Video capture tool I can use? Generally, I want to capture VCR content onto my comp. I use WinTV USB2 cables to connect my computer to a VCR using the USB slot on my comp.

I like to capture in Virtual VCR. Virtual Dub is pretty good too for capturing, but I haven't used it in about a year since discovering Virtual VCR.

I capture with a Dazzle device and Pinnacle Studio. They do a good job with the capturing, but the software is lousy for rendering and burning, so I move the mpeg file to something else after the capture for the authoring, etc.

I don't use a dedicated hard drive for the capture, either, as is usually recommended.
