    Hello everyone

Sorry to ask a dumb question, but.. Anybody else having this problem ?

    Long story, very short..
After installing this new x264 codec, and exploring its encoding quality
capabilities via VirtualDUB and still using it in hopes to view the videos,
I was not able to open these AVI's. I can open them in MS Media player,
and they play very well, though.

I was hoping to review these videos attributes, like bitrate and things.

    Codec that I downloaded:
    ** x264 CLI

The reason is that it isn't a codec. It is an encoder only.

Your link is wrong to. Says CLI, but links to VfW. Thing is that I really would recommend that you use the cli and not VfW. That said, if you want VfW decoding, use ffdshow. Encoding via VfW is not a good idea though and the reason WMP works is that it uses dshow, not VfW.
