You can copy a screenshot of HD DVD and Blu-ray movies in full resolution using the print screen key. Using an automated program you could take a screenshot of each frame and reassemble them together to rip the movie in full res.

???????
Well you could but that would be extremely taxing - what about the audio? Can you rip the 5.1 out of them yet??? Would you have to do realtime stereo capturing as it played normally and then resynch them with the 100,000 still shots you made???
What about the i, p, b frames??? You'd have to have a very picky screen capturing program.
I don't think this will be the true hd/bluray ripping process of the future. Intreguing but way too labor intensive imo.Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
Tick-Tock, its just a matter of time. Now that Blue Ray and HD DVD are in the hands of the code busting masters, the code will be broken.
I'm waiting for the first to fall, as the other format will become the standard, at least for a while. -
The first dvd ripper tool I used did take screenshots.....can't remember the name...

there is now an automatic script to take use the intervideo print screen function and automate the whole process , it runs at about .25 speed -- so a two hour move would be captured in 8 hours in perfect hd quality ...
new drivers in a "update" will defeat the print screen ...."Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -
And a new "HACK" will defeat the update

What a load.

There must be some really desperate or extremely bored individuals out there if they consider this a valid method for ripping.
-
Im just to lazy to do all of that.
Think I can find better things to do with my time than this.Life is like a pothole, you just have to learn to get around it. -
:P
I predicted this very method about a year ago, so I'm not surprised. Even did a 3 min. test to see if it would work--YUP. (Don't worry-deleted it afterwards)
Why would people do this, ROF? I'm surprised at you. ALL THOSE "PIRATES"! $$$$They could burn this on those dual-layer DVD±Rs..

this is the way dvds were first ripped for the most part ....
since it is automated and still pretty quick -- it is not a big deal (till something else comes alone)"Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -
My old computer (just prior to the one I currently have) would take an average of 36 to 48 hours to encode an average length movie to MPEG-2 DVD spec using CCE ... and YES I use to wait that long ...
8 Hours ain't no big deal ... do it overnight while sleeping and/or when away at work.

If someone did manage to make a screenshot program that could take shots and make them in to a new movie, would that mean that you could not include the menu's and buttons and have them linked properly...ect???

Yep. Then all you have to do is rip the audio from a different source and sync the two together.
How do you get paid an hour at work? Comparatively how much is your time valued at away from work? 8 hours + xx hours to sync the audio. Of course, this time does not include making sure that what has been automated actually did the quality job it was supposed to. If it "burps" along the way since it was automated you'd have to start at the beginning again or perform some magic editing.
I'd say and most people here seem to agree with me this would be a sign that you either extremely bored with your life or desperate enough to waste your time doing this process.
If I really wanted a copy that bad I would go out an buy another copy. In this way I will be supporting the entertainers and entertainment companies who have provided me with such a great movie that I would actually consider undertaking the grueling task that has been described in this thread. In the long run I will have saved time and money by purchasing a second copy. -

Somebodeez:
I push hardware to the limit.
Whether I am processing video, 3-d renders, CAD animations, work files over VPN - - I can make hard drives sound like they are taking off. I have a USB farm of 4 external drives now each at least 100Gb. The desktop stations each have two 200Gb - with one station including a 400Gb SATA (this baby I'm putting the Fusion HDTV 5RT Gold in soon to try it out).
Day before yesterday I had my D-Link wireless/wired router fail.
Now I got to have that replaced by the manufacturer since it's still under warranty.
Didn't keep me from buying a backup, though, keeping me online.
My digital work in the office (logistics databases along with admin of two major servers) often follows me home.
You know the Advance tv commercials?
