I have a dvd that when played with the sound just through my tv speakers is fine, but if I turn on my home theater system, it shows the L R SW speakers to be on but every few seconds the audio shuts off, then goes on again.....throughout the whole movie. Is there anyway to fix this?

Here is what Gspot gave me, but I have no idea what I am looking for?

Would there be anyway to fix this with only having this dvd to work with?

I don't see anything too strange there. It's 2 channel audio. Your receiver may think it's surround or multichannel sound. Do you have a setting on the receiver to just select stereo 2 channel?

If you re-encode it, you might use AC3 audio as it is a little more DVD compliant, though I haven't ran into any DVD players that have problems with MPEG 1, Layer 2 audio.

If this were from a commercial DVD, it would likely have AC3 5.1 audio, along with the two channel. AC3 5.1 is the only format I keep when I back up a DVD.

It is from a vhs a friend made from one of my VHS tapes. I have a sony STR K840P receiver and a Toshiba SD2800 dvd player.

I will check out all the many settings the receiver has to see if I can find just a 2channel option? Never had the problem so never really researched that....

Would TMPGEnc Dvd Author be able to change the audio, because that is the only editing software I have other than dvdshrink.

It can get a little involved, but you don't need to re-encode the video. If you can extract out the audio from the VOBS, you can use a program like Belight to convert the MP2 audio to AC3. Then replace the audio in the VOBS.

I don't really think this is necessary, though. I would check your receiver audio options first. MP2 audio should not be a problem in a DVD.

Ok so I got it to work, but it just seems odd to me. When watching dvds, I have receiver turned to video2 (5.1). When I put this dvd in it only showed 2.1 (L,R, SW), but every few seconds it seemed to lose the signal and no sound came from stereo. What I also have is my TV that uses Video1 (used mainly for gaming and is 2.1 as well. But oddly enough the dvd's audio plays totally fine through video1, which has the same 2.1 audio as Video2? The only difference is that Video2 goes from dvdplayer by way of optical, and Video1 is from tv by way of component.......

Not sure why it works on Video1 and not Video2, but it does.......just one of those wonderful oddites that comes from technology....lol

just had two of these myself from original dvd's backed up with either dvdv shrink or dvdv rebuilder. I am using a rca set top player linked to a denon reciever I also was using the optical out to the reciever when I started having problems checked the conections and no problems pull cable out of reciver and dvd player and blew out conections with air just in case dust was the culprit.and still and the problem so I chanced to digital coaxial conection and the problem has gone away wierd because both components are still processing the sound the same way just using a different jack
