  1. can anyone vouch for an app that converts divx to MP4 (iPod) without annoying audiovidual sync issues? I batch-encoded some files using videora overnight, and looking at them now, I see the further I get into playing back the file, the bigger the a/v sync issue becomes. 30 minute tv shows seem to hold out ok, but 2-hour movies get pretty bad. I have not yet played these back in my iPod yet so for all I know the problem is not present on the device but I kinda doubt it.

    Thanks -

I would check those Divx/Xvids with GSpot for MP3 VBR audio. That will cause the type of problems you describe. If you find it: http://members.dodo.net.au/~jimmalenko/ExtractAudio.htm

Then you can mux the new MP3 CBR back into the video and try encoding it.

The other common cause of sync loss is missing or corrupted video frames. VirtualDub can check for these also.

  3. I appreciate the reply.

But I think I jumped the gun in posting. After a bit more scouring of the forum archives, I found this app called SUPER. Goofy UI, great app. It's getting the job done in spades - no a/v sync issues, correct aspect ratio, manageable file size, etc. very good app for what I need to do.

Incidentally, I encoded my Divx files myself in AutoGK and I used 128 mbps CBR MP3 as the audio in all of them. So I chose not to pursue that potential issue.

    Thanks again -

Good deal. I run into VBR audio all the time from net video. But SUPER is a good program. I use it mostly for odd formats, but it's improving all the time.

  6. I read elsewhere that the 3gp app doesn't respect original aspect ratios though.

    Your thoughts?

  7. i've converted alot of stuff with it. i really don't know anything about if it messes with the ratios but everything looks good when i play it on my tv.
