There seem to be several problems with Nero 7 and .avi files, but I was wondering why my situation is happening.

I have a 2.4GHz Intel machine with 1 g RAM. The motherboard is ATI based.

I captured a video from my camcorder using NeroVision 4. In the latest version of NV 4, I try to play the .avi file on the editing page. The video plays, but only plays about 2nd or 3rd frame, so it strobes a little. The sound appears to be normal. During this time, the processor is being worked at about 68% and if I start another application, the skipping gets worse.

If I play the same file in Nero's ShowTime, it plays fine with only about 8% cpu usage. It almost seems to me, when I play the file in NV4, it is being transcoded or encoded, or something while it plays.

I have been researching codecs to try to determine if I have a problem there, but it doesn't seem so. I don't think this is related to just the one file, but any .avi file.

I guess the main question is why does the file play fine in ShowTime (and WMP) and not NV4? What is different about the way it is being played to cause this problem?

It may just be a bug in the software, but I can't seem to tell.

    Thanks

I found out that if I reduced the video resolution on the monitor, the .avi would play back almost normally in NV4. I believe this to be a further indication that the processor is being worked too hard to just play an .avi file.
