I have WinTV capture device, and I actually use it to capture through Virtual Dub, where I then add a logo.

When I save it I don't use any form of compression.

I would like to compress these videos so they are smaller then 1MB a piece, but I don't want to lose much quality as they are from tapes which already have poor quality, but I don't want them to be huge cause that will eat up the bandwidth, so 1.5MB is as high as I'm willing to go for compression.

Right now I use Windows Media Tools and convert to asf. But I end up losing a lot of the quality.

In AVI format one of my files is 390MB and its only a clip that is 1 minute long.

If anyone has any ideas for me, please tell me where i can get the compression files I'd need, etc and how to do it?

    Thanks,
    Kat

The easiest(if you are a newbie) is creating a flash video(.flv)...in my opinion anyway.
I use the Riva FLV encoder 2.0....freebie too.

The next step would be Divx or Xvid(mpeg 4 disguised as an .avi file) which can be done through VirtualDub but there are many variables involved that can give drastically different results.

For flv files, I would suggest VP62. Gives much better quality than Sorenson Spark.

What app should be used to convert to VP62 *.flv (flash) files ?

If you have Flash, then it comes with a converter. Otherwise Sorenson have one, not sure what else is available. Maybe ffmpeg can remux a vp62 avi? Then you could just use On2's free encoder.
