What should i be looking for in Gspot, to make sure that the current avi will work in my Phillips DVP-642 divx player, I understand Qpel/GMC but sometimes i may put in my divx/xvid and it will not have audio, or the audio works but the video is funny coloured and blocky.

Funny coloured video would be due to the use of CQM's. You would need MPEG4Modifier to check for that. Also reports qpel/GMC. You should also check the resolution as anything higher than 720x576 won't play. Infact I believe some people don't recommend higher than 640x??? for the 642.
As for the audio. Could be an unsupported format, sample rate, etc.
