How do you change the default background of the video tracks?
Its currently black but I find no way of changing it to white.
To get arouond it I created a second video track and put a blank text screen on that, but there surely must be a better way of changing it.
Any ideas?
ps: I have Vegas 6

You could try uninstalling and reinstalling. I've never had any tracks show up black without a video in it.

I don't think you can change it because it isn't really black, but null. Effectively, if you reduce the size of the original clip (physical dimensions) to be smaller than the frame, you are seeing the "nothing" behind it. if you want something behind it - e.g. a single colour, you have to put it there. That said, you could just drop a Solid Colour media behind it, instead of a text effect.
