There's no reason why TY from Meritline should be any different from TY from any place else...

That is logical but remember that Meritline is not exactly a reputable place thus logic goes out the door.

    - 100 Taiyo Yuden CD-R 40x

    On Meritline -

One of the cake boxes of media arrived crushed and open, as did many of the slim cases, many more of which were scratched. javascript:emoticon('')

To its credit, Meritline includes a return authorization code with deliveries, and in fairly short order exchanged the crushed DVD package and slim cases... though three of the replacement cases were also crushed. (Yes, snapped into pieces as they were in the original order: not just surface cracks.)

On TY DVD-R 16x (Japanese manufactured) media (burned on the TY-recommended Pioneer DVR-110D) -

Every one of the 14 burns I've done thus far - from five files of differing origins - has been plagued with artifacts, freezes, and sound anomolies. javascript:emoticon('')

Each of these files was then reburned on Ridata DVD-R 16x media on the same burner with no sound anomolies and without any artifacting whatsoever. I checked configuration and tried reduced burn speeds with the TY media, but got the same results. Verrrrrry disappointed!

Perhaps I just just received a bad batch of TY media, but the waste of time in trying to sort it out has soured me from purchasing any more, and certainly not from Meritline.

    Sorry, just *had* to vent.
I've got a Pioneer DVR-110D as well and exclusively use TY media that I've gotten from Supermediastore and couldn't be happier. Have yet to get a bad burn due to bad media. Packaging has always been adequate as well.

Come on now Mr. Coleman...You think Meritline is opening the packages, scratching the discs up or otherwise damaging them, and repackaging them or something? What would they gain? They get the same discs from TY, Verbatim, Prodisc etc. everyone else does. Meritline's problem seems to be with filling orders correctly or on time. I ordered some Verbatim printables from them. The discs are great, but it took them over a week to ship the darn things out.

    I don't make shit up.

My comments about Meritline are based on facts from the past.

Any old timer around these parts should know about all this.

    Meritline is fine.

Their problems have always been confined to accepting orders for out-of-stock items (problem fixed long ago) and for taking a while to ship (this depends largely on extenuating factors outside their control).

The last time I remember meritline selling fakes was back in the old days of 2x media, when TDK and MAXELL fakes first appeared, and took everybody by surprise. They learned their lesson from that.

Now, you may get fake media if you buy their no-name media (Good Stuff brand, or whatever), 10 cent discs, but what else would you expect? They would not call it TY.

As Gen-An said, albeit it much nicer than I would do, sometimes these rumors are retarded. Honestly, who would be "opening the packages, scratching the discs up or otherwise damaging them, and repackaging them"? Nobody, it's silly. All suppliers get the same discs. I remember getting a ton of RIMA.COM RITEKG03 discs with scratches, back when discs were more than $1 each. Or even Fuji branded TY discs from Best Buy. It was simply manhandled between the factory and me, anywhere from the factory workers, to the boat yards, to the stores, to the shippers. Maybe even all of it combined.

Was that really so long ago?

I guess I just don't forgive and forget so easily.

SuperMediaStore is another one I don't trust.

I thought it was both sites that were "caught up" in the TY scandal of selling fakes or substandard product?

Whatever. I don't need either one.

The only site I remember selling fake TY and TDK was allmediaoutlet, but that did not last long either, that was back in either 2004 or 2005. They too have reformed.

The major sites are good about honesty and trying to keep legitimate media in stock, and for a good price.

  9. If you do a search for prior threads you will see several instances of where Meritline was caught selling fake TY's and other brands. I have put the links to a couplel of these threads below, and there are more out there if you search. In one instance they were selling fakes, and then when enough people complained they repackaged the fakes under another name and contined to sell them.

Maybe they have changed by now or maybe not, who knows. Now and then I hear stories of people buying TY brand from Meritline and having terrible luck, funny thing I never hear such horror stories about TY bought from Rima or other legit companies.
