Got nothing to do with XviD. Chapters come purely down to the container and avi does not support them. That is where the DivX Media Format comes in. Basically it is a hack/extension to avi and one of the things that it adds is chapters. Requires support from the player though.

mkv, mp4, ogm, dsm, etc. also support chapters. mp4 is the only one that might be supported by your player though (Nero Digital Certified).

    thanks for your reply.

if a standalone player plays xvid, does it mean it plays mp4 as well?

For mp4 I would suggest mp4box/yamb. If your player doesn't support mp4, then it won't work though. Also if your avi uses AC3 audio, it won't work.

thanks to all inputs. i tested Mp4, any files with extension (*.mp4) are not compatible with my player, though it plays xvid/divx. im not lucky.

    hope theres another way.

I thought the latest version of divx supported chapters???? Have you tried looking at www.divx.com and searching for "chapters"??

you're right but will a simple fourcc change do the trick, i dont use xvid, have you two tried it?

if his xvid has GMC/QPEL etc that is not accepted by Divx format he will have to convert the xvid to divx. i wouldnt bother with it.

i tried avi file with *.divx is the extension but it didnt work with my player, however, when i change the filename extension to *.avi, it works but chapter not recognize by standalone player.. it maybe means my player is not divx certified.

i'm still looking for ways how to create chapter in avi hehehe (still dreaming). as of now, what i do to 2hours+ movies and titles(with numerous Musicvids/concert scenes/karaoke in it) are chopping the file so i can press "nextbutton" in my remote control ).
