    Okay, I'm stymied.

I have a Shuttle running W2K (fully updated). The DVD player software that accompanies it complains about not being able to play any audio from any DVD I insert. VLC, however, plays fine.

    So there are two questions:

    1. How do I stop this Windows DVD player from launching automatically?

    2. How do I rectify the "no audio" problem? I imagine this is because I need some kind of AC3 codec, right?

    Thanks in advance!

If you want Autoplay to use VLC instead of WMP, click on the DVD drive, select 'Properties>Autoplay>DVD Movie'>Click 'Select an action to perform', then select VLC and 'Apply'. Or you can disable Autoplay completely if that's what you want.

The 'no audio' problem can probably be cured by AC3 Filter.

    redwudz,

Thanks very much. Right on both counts. AC3 Filter nailed the DCD Player issue immediately (with no config necessary). As Ron Popiel says: "Just set it and forget it."

    Problems resolved.

Good deal. Hopefully we get it right a few times.
