    Hi, I have some source footage I would like to upload to google video. It says on their help section they prefer MPEG4. I am using Sony Vegas 5 for my encoding. Can someone tell me how to encode to MPEG4? I always use MPEG2 for making DVDs so I am a bit unfamiliar with the other formats.. Also, if you have had better experience with another format on uploading video for google, I would be interested in hearing what you have to say. I know google converts the video to flash from whatever you upload, but does the upload filesize have any effect on the conversion? In other words, If I upload a 50mb file, will the finished google video be larger than if I uploaded a 25 mb file?
    Thanks!

    Why don't you try using divx? Use virtualdubmod if your using a mpeg source. Works great for the web.

    Well divx is part of the mpeg 4 family. Not the h264 stuff but the mpeg4 avi family at least. I haven't done google video personally. Have you read if it has any more detailed specs for uploading video? We could translate if necessary.

    Technical Requirements:

    * We accept many popular formats, such as AVI, ASF, QuickTime, Windows Media and MPEG formats. For example, .avi, .asf, .mov, .wmv, .mpg, .mpeg, .mp4, .ra, .ram, and .mod are all acceptable file extensions. Please note that we currently do not accept Flash files. Specific video codecs we accept include H.264, H.263, MPEG 1/2/4 and motion JPEG.
    * The video must contain recognizable video content (video container files that do not contain video will not be accepted).
    * The frame rate should be above 12 frames per second.
    * The bitrate must be above 260 Kbps.
    * The video must be at least 10 seconds long.

    If you have a video in another format, we will do our best to interpret it.
    Quality Recommendations:

    If possible, we suggest uploading the original source file. However, we recommend the specifications below for maximum quality and reasonable file size:

    * MPEG4 (mp3 or mp4 audio) at 2 mbps
    * MPEG2 (mp3 or mp4 audio) at 5 mbps
    * 30 frames per second
    * 640x480 resolution
    * 4:3 frame
    * de-interlace

    so my question is if I upload a 2mbps mpeg2, as opposed to a 5mpbs mpeg2, will the final vile that is streamed to the viewer on google video be smaller? or does it not matter what I upload?

    Actually it says you can use mpeg 2:

    "* MPEG2 (mp3 or mp4 audio) at 5 mbps "

    I'd try your mpeg 2 file and see how it goes.
