  1. I've started using TMPgenc DVD Author and like it for editing video and creating menus. Is it possible to add transitions to scenes? Some of my home video footage is pretty choppy and transitions help smooth it out? I appreciate any suggestions, but please keep in mind that I'm a total newbie to video. Thanks

  2. TMPgenc DVD Author is for authoring DVD's only. It is used to make menus and burn the files to DVD. You need editing software to add transitions between your video scenes. Sony Vegas, Ulead, Pinnacle, etc. They all make video editing software.

  3. Thanks. TMPgenc does let me do some basic editing, such as trimming scenes, deleting unwanted sections, and adding chapters which was something I needed to do.

I said I was nearly a total newbie, so pardon the dumb question: Will these programs allow me to import files I've worked on TMPgenc DVD Author and insert transitions? It appears to me that TMPgenc's working files, prior to authoring them into a DVD-compliant format, are some sort of proprietary format for TMPgenc, something like *.dvddata. Anyway, my copy of Pinnacle lite doesn't recognize them.

You should do all of your editing (trimming, transitions, etc) prior to converting to Mpeg2. Then you import the Mpeg2 files into TDA for DVD authoring. You're procedure is a little off.

I import the video from a standalone DVD recorder, so I have to demux it in TMPgenc before I can edit it. That's when TMPgenc creates those *.dvddata files that appear proprietary to me.

I thought you were importing it from your video camera.

If it is already in mpg format, use something like Womble to cut/trim (they also have a transition package, Mpeg Video Wizard).

TMPGEnc doesn't have a proprietary file system. That's only for the project files. It doesn't do anything with the files until you complete the project.

    To FinChase,

Hi. I have used MPEG Video Wizard for a long time. It's very useful for me. They have many transitions, also include 3D transitions.

    You may try it.
