  1. If the codec was installed by an install.exe, I would just run the uninstall program.
If the codec does not have an uninstall program, I could go to Gspot in advanced mode and unregister the codec from here.
But the codec is just unregistered, it is still on the hard drive. Yes I could delete the *.ax file on the hard drive, but perhaps I will miss some components.
So is there a clean way to fully uninstall a codec if there's no uninstall program?

codec sniper < personally never worked for me..
    I go in manually
    Open
    C:\windows\system32\
    and Open Regedit
    LM\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Dri vers32
Its usefull to have AVIcodec a program that identifies the codecs

Remove the DLL and the Regitry Reference to that DLL and its Gone for ever.

From the original post they are talking about directshow filters, not codecs though.

Yes, unregistering and deleting the ax file will do it.

For VfW codec's, there are a few more registry filters that you might want to clean out (such as HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\MediaResourc es\icm), but they aren't as important.

If a dshow filter did have an uninstaller, all it would do is unregister and delete the file.
