Can book type be changed on standalone recorders and the LiteOn LVW-5005 in particular? I've seen several threads on bit setting for DVD burner on the PC but none for standalone recorders. I have a Toshiba SDK610 DVD player that will play no DVDs created on this LiteOn regardless of media type, and this DVD player plays -R backups created by PC burner but plays no +R backups created by PC. My current solution is to use DVDDecrypter iso read and iso write on the PC with DVD-ROM book type to make discs that will play on this player. This is an extra step requiring more time that shouldn't be necessary if only bit setting for the standalone were possible.

Actually my Panasinic DMR-ES10, when using DVD+R media, set the book type to DVD-ROM.
Now I just need a more compatible menu and/or ISO image... 8)
I do not remember where, but I think you makr your Lite On recorder can be configured to set book type, by changing the writer firmware to a version that sets book type to DVM-ROM by defualt.
This is done to the loader frimware, not to the DVD-Recorder. -
Unfortunately searches found at CDFreaks seem to indicate bit setting is not possible with this LiteOn.

I think the process incuded disasembling your DD-Reocrded and mounting the DVD Writer in a PC.
From there get use a lite firmware hacking tool (I do not recall the name of it) to mod the firmware of the DVD writed to bit set to DVD-ROM by default.
Flash the DVD-Writer with this new firmware. Burn a couple of DVD+R media to test.
Assemble the DVD recorder and you are done. -
Do you mean what's discussed at http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=125214? This link discusses replacing the drive of the 5005 unit with certain DVD burner drives made for PC, but there's nothing I find there to flash existing 5005 drive to enable bitsetting by removing and connecting to PC for flashing. That would likely work if one could find firmware to do that, but I've been unable to find such firmware.

Did you try connectig the the burner in your LVW-5005 to you PC to identify what kid of burner is this?

I didn't do that because a CDFreaks post I found said the 5005 has a DDW883 drive for which I've been unable to find firmware except for official LiteOn firmware and hackable versions to make region free and remove Macrovision but none that enable bit setting. I didn't want to go to that degree of work knowing before hand there was no firmware found that enables bit setting.
