I am running short of Mini DV tapes and am looking to buy some new ones.

Can I just get them from Ebay... the well known brands such as Sony and Maxell are there.
My quesiton really is "are there inferior quality ones or do they pretty much come from the same source and are about the same?"

    Tks,

  2. Beware of S'0'NY, Maxel, maxxell, JUC.. Instead of risking getting stuck with counterfiet. Goto major mail order to buy them in 10 pack, and pay the discounter price.

I will consider their robustness as important issue. The tape is much smaller so it is very very difficult to repair. I have bought panasonic, sony, jvc, and maxell. I only have one maxell tape broken on me.

As a rule, they're quality control has improved, so any major manufacturer will give you good quality tapes..
    However:
Be careful which brand you buy, as far as camcorder model goes...
Panasonic tapes for example, use a dry lubricant, whereas Sonies use a wet lubricant..

Therefore, determine what your camcorder prefers, and stick to it..

    The suggested method is:

    1. Pick a brand and stick with it.

    -or-

    2. Mix and match lots of different brands all the time.

What you don't want to do is pick one main brand, and then occasionally use something else.

If you use Sony tapes stick with Sony
If you use other brands mix 'n matching should be OK.
