1. Can I skip nero 7.0's transcoding mode ? the reason for that is because it takes 7-13 hours to encode the video files and then 30 seconds to burn it. I have read a few posts on this board as long as the movie file is mpeg or mpeg2 and is DVD compliant nero should check the file and might possibly skip its transcoding feature and just burn the DVD without have to wait all day or night and you can use your PC without having to bother Nero while it is burning the DVD for you.
2.Also what is the best DVD authoring software to use for mpeg 1/2 and vob files ?

I don't know about 'best' but TMPGEnc DVD Author is easy to use. For freeware, try DVDAuthorgui. Nero doesn't even rate as mediocre as an authoring program. It's fine as a burner, but doesn't do much else that well. JMO.
You might want to check your video against the DVD spec in 'What is' DVD to the upper left to see if it really is compliant. Gspot should be able to show you the specs. <<<<<<

Hey Redwuz, thanks for your help and suggestions I actually downloaded DVDAuthorgui 2 days ago a friend of mine shot me a copy by email link and decided to give it a try the only small problem I have with this program is that it can not read my mpeg2 files. it gives me this error message (NAV packets are not detected in the legend of Zelda Ocarina of time DVD.mpg please demultiplex). what does this program actually want me to do with files ?
Also I checked what is DVD and everything matches up to my mpeg2 files I created this morning also I have been using GSpot for over a year now its a very useful tool if the video file won't play GSpot will tell you straight up something is screwed in your file...... 8)
P.S.
I came here to this forum about 3 years ago but couldn't stay for very long I had enrolled college for A+ Net+ and training courses finished in 2005 of december at 11:55pm thats when me and some other friends of mine finished and mastered the test. that is how I got the nick name MidnightMike as well MadMikeXP -
