  1. The simplicity of this problem is bound to raise flames, but I sorta have doubts as well because I can't find anything in Forum Searches or in any Published Articles! So... please, go easy on me

    Basically, I just authored a DVD using DVD-Lab Pro, and then proceeded to burn it using Nero Burning Rom 6.6.0.16, and have come across the same problem I have had since I started this semi-regular business of Authoring my own DVD's. 90% of the time I burn a DVD, and the "Furthest Area Out" on the DVD surface always suffers problems during playback, specifically: Regular small jumps at best, gradually deteriorating into a complete failure, and the DVD Player literally displays the times jumping from "56:40" to "56:58", for example, within a second. I can hear my DVDRW Drive spinning crazy to try and "locate" the section of video I skipped to, either manually or by Chapters, and the same problem applies to our stand-alone DVD Player.

    I use Verbatim DVD-R Advanced Azo+ with my Emprex 1016IM DVD±RW, and basicaly I'm yet again on another adventure to find the solution!

    Atm, my only course of action to attempt is a Defragmentation of my drive which stores the Final data (the 1GB Vob files and stuff). One of which this time round is fragmented 250 odd times, and I wonder if this somehow affects the burn speed, which I seriously doubt because of the 5Mbps Burn speed, compared to the insane speed of the HDD Read/Write heads!

    I also recently remapped my Drives physically, by making it so Data flows down the IDE1 Channel and back up the IDE0 Channel, but I havn't since managed to make a burn sucessful because of a "Power Calibration Error", I can't say if this has fixed it. Don't worry though, I noticed there are loads of solutions to try on the Net for this error, and I will conquer this and not drag it into this post, hehe.

    So... that's basically my situation, I hope there is enough detail to give food for thought on the matter, but ideally doesn't help I can't test my new Drive configuration... but maybe you folk have some other thoughts on it anyway Maybe some software options? I seen some crazy graphs on other forums depicting the burn process and stuff to tell you how well things are *really* working, but I recall not being able to understand the darn graphs! ^_^;;

    Thanks alot for your help in advance!

    My opinion....media, burner or player.

    Try changing each in turn to narrow it down.

    a couple hints. burn at half the media's rated speed. even on known good media more errors occur in the final 10%, so try not to make your dvdrs larger than 4gb.

    sounds like your emprex is dead, the power calibration error is usually permanent and fatal. try a higher quality burner, pioneer, plextor or another recommended brand.

  4. First, simplest, and so common I cannot concieve how even the most basic search would have missed it, is TRY ANOTHER BRAND OF MEDIA.

    Cheap or defective media is extremely commonly most problematic in exactly the area you are describing.

    Aye, I'm really leaning towards ther Burner tbh. Although the process is a bit long-haul, I will do this!

    That sounds like a good idea tbh, this Emprex one seemed like a good deal money wise for the features it offers, and doesn't "look" shabby, but I guess it has decieved me. As for it being possibly a permanent DVD Drive failure, I have burned one DVD since since this error has been appearing - so it could be fading with time (despite how new it is really, what a rip off). I have heard a 10 minute job of cleaning the internal lense or something can work wonders, so I will try that!

    I have tried two different brands, and the only difference is Verbatim has had if anything better compatibility as opposed to Mr.DVD or whatever the hell it was called. I'm well aware of this one as well, becase like ya said, it's impossible to miss O_o DVD Cakes of 25/50 are a bit expensive, and if the store can refund used sets which didn't work... then I'll be hesitant about trying others for a while.

    Thanks for the advice thus far, I guess I'll get this stuff done when I'm in a good mood (Dissapointing day today :/), because I'm not good at handling frustration when it comes to taking apart my PC. Let alone trudging through trial and error of testing hardware to work out where the problem is, bah!

    Mr DVD is absolute garbage, don't even bother trying. Your problem does sound like dodgy media although the fact that your burner is dying may also have a lot to do with it. As you are in England, get along to www.svp.co.uk and for under £30 you can get a brand new burner and a pack of 25 decent quality blanks. I use either Ritek G05 (which a lot of people don't rate but I've never had any problems) or Taiyo Yuden.
