I have been reading this site but have not found out my answer. It is a very large site and was hoping someone can point me to the right area. I have a 11gig avi file that I created. I learned late about compressing. I need to compress this down to make a dvd out of it. Any ideas of how to do this? Thanks for any help I can get.

Umm, try searching? "Avi to dvd" might work. This is one of the most common conversions, there is a TON of info here.

Take some time and read. Your patience will be rewarded

The first thing to aware of is that the size of a AVI file has almost nothing to do with the size of the same file encoded to MPEG-2. The second thing is what is important is the running time of the video, not the size. If you go to 'Tools' to the left and DL a bitrate calculator, it will tell you what bitrate to use to fit it properly on a DVD. If the bitrate calculator gives you a bitrate much below 5000kbps, then you might want to look into 1/2 D1 resolution. You can see what that and other valid DVD formats are to the upper left in 'What is' DVD. <<<<<<

You can also find MPEG-2 encoders in 'Tools' along with authoring programs that are also needed to convert the MPEGa to the DVD format. If you want a easier way to do this that works well with most Xvids off the net you could try ConvertXToDVD or the freeware DivxToDVD.

    And welcome to our forums.

http://members.dodo.net.au/~jimmalenko/AVI2DVD.htm walks you through the conversion process using TMPGEnc Plus (MPEG encoder).

There's also plenty of guides for using other encoders such as CCE in the ALL GUIDES section to your left.

Or if it's all to hard at the moment then try Convertxtodvd or its freeware predecessor, divxtodvd.
    If in doubt, Google it.
