I loaded an MPEG-2 video file into Video Studio 10. The video movie is approx 87 minutes. Now I converted this MPEG to DVD VOB files onto the hard drive. It took Video Studio 6 1/2 hours to do the conversion.
I loaded the same MPEG-2 file into another conversion program and had it convert the MPEG to DVD VOB files onto the hard drive. It took about 5 minutes.
Both output VOB files played exactly the same movie.
Can someone explain to me why it would take VS 6 1/2 hours to convert an MPEG to VOB while the other program only took about 5 minutes? Is there something wrong with Video Studio? I really don't understand this one.

I suspect that VS10 re-encoded the video, even though it was legal. The second program just authored to VOB because the mpeg-2 was compliant.
Look in the settings in VS10 for a check box along the lines of "Don not encode complaint video"
I don't have VS10, so I don't know where to look, or what it actually says, but it will probably be there. If it isn't, it is time to get a new package.Read my blog here.
