  1. Hello All, two questions: I have windows pro media centre edition.

I have searched my computer and cannot locate Windows Movie Maker 2, where exactly is it, and what do i look for to open it???

Also, i am not too well off, (in the future might look at a paid for one) I am looking for a good Video program to use thats free. Not too clever with video, but got my Daughters wedding coming soon.
I have a DV Camcorder which i use.

    Thanks for any replies, GEP

I don't know whether WMM comes installed as standard with MCE, but with XP Pro V1 is under All Programs, quite simply listed as Windows Movie Maker. IIRC WMM V2 is a downloadable extra, and moves to All Programs > Accessories, again as Windows Movie Maker.

As for a free video program, it depends on what you wish to do. For simple editing and general "improvement" (noise reduction, cropping, deshaking etc etc) the combination of virtualdub and AVISynth is completely free and will do quite a good job IMHO. However once you start talking transitions, overlays and such, then you're starting to look at some $$$.
    If in doubt, Google it.

WMM2 also comes as part of SP2 for XP.

There are a number of powerful, free tools that can add a lot polish, however you wont get them all in an integrated package. WAX2 is a free compositing package that is capable of some nice work. You would have to use, save WMM to cut the end of scene 1 and the start of scene 2 as seperate files, use WAX2 to build these into a fancy transition, then use WMM to assemble them together again. There are others that can also be used, but it depends on how you want to work.

I find that it is worth checking out sourceforge, the open source community, from time to time to see what is being developed for free. There are editors and effects packages in various states of development. Some are ready to use.

You don't need it, but IMHO you'd be better off using them to complement each other.
    If in doubt, Google it.
