When Windows loads it will install the driver. Make sure you have setup the Burner correctly via the back jumpers, Make sure it is setup to either CS-Cable Select, or Master/Slave. A good read here

yes i understand that
The dvd drive is slave and primary hd is master connected to the first port on the motherboard
then i have cdrw as MASTER and the secondary hd as slave..connected to the second port on the motherboard
When i go to add new hardware it shows my sony dvd drive but it has a yellow exlamation point on it..
Plzz someone help -
try it in another computer if you can. some are just defective. if it works elsewhere then try the upper and lower filter removal registry fix for winXP. cd/dvd drives don't have drivers like other components.
Click the Start button, click Run. In the Open box, type Regedit, and then click OK. Click the plus sign (+) next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE. Click the plus sign (+) next to SYSTEM. Click the plus sign (+) next to CurrentControlSet. Click the plus sign (+) next to Control. Click the plus sign (+) next to Class. Click {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}. On the right hand side of the window, click UpperFilters. Click Edit on the menu bar. Click Delete, and then click OK. On the right-hand side of the window, click LowerFilters. Click Edit on the menu bar. Click Delete, and then click OK. Click File, and then click Exit. Restart the computer normally.
as a last resort i'd install a new aspi layer. for winXP - http://www.dvd2svcd.org/xp-aspi.zip--

Your IDE setup looks dodgy, this is how I would have it -
IDE 1 hard drive (master) + hard drive (slave)
IDE 2 DVD writer (master) + CDRW (slave)He's a liar and a murderer, and I say that with all due respect. -
