It's been awhile since i've used dvdauthor gui's. I tried adding to title's, dragged them over, edited the button names, and changed the background, pretty basic. When I play the dvd with powerdvd the menu flashes (0 duration). Double checked with dvd shrink. I had set the duration to 30 sec. Any clue where I screwed up? Thanx.

  2. Probably the old 'frames for still menus' problem...

PowerDVD has problems with 2 to ~ 8 frames. If your SA player supports it (most do), you can simply use 1 frame (powerdvd likes it).

thanx! Giving it a try now. They really need to make an option not to remux vobs, when they're already there.

Who needs to make an option ??? You can use vob files in GfD, but you have to join them (if the vobs are part of the same movie) and rename the 'total' vob to mpg. I've not yet found a way to join the vob files in dvdauthor directly. See: https://www.videohelp.com/~gfd/Help/RawMaterial.html

Setting Number of Frames for still menus to 15 did not work. Any other ideas?

Menu works in WMP, so screw it I'll burn it anyway. Running low on dvd-r's can't afford to waste any if I can help it.

I was talking about mplex in batchrun0. If I make a change to a menu or something, mplex runs again, and overwrites the existing files. This is a big deal to me since I have a ATA-66 drive right now. Painfully slow. I ended up using edit author.xml, and rem out mplex in batchrun0.

You can just 'replace' the elementary video + audio files in the video file dialog with the 'ready muxed' version after the first run. The only thing you need to 'save' is the chapter list (just copy the chapter list to the clipboard, replace the elementary video with the multiplexed version and paste the the chapter list again). Another possibility is using 'create batch', just run the batchrun0.bat and the import the 'premuxed' version again. Or do the multiplexing before (mplex 'by hand' from commandline, or use imago, bbmpeg...). If you have full DVD compliant material (i.e resolution), it will get better with the next version, as you can use MuxMan for the complete multiplexing/authoring step. The general 'doing' within GfD is exactly the same, independent from the selected 'authoring engine': mplex+dvdauthor or MuxMan. If you like to have a test version, just send me a note.
