  1. I have a lot of captured and edited videos that I have stored as xvid files. I'm looking to burn them as data discs and was wondering if anyone knew of a good freeware program to burn data dvds.

    Thanks a bundle

CD Burner XP Pro is freeware - no ads, no nags. I wouldn't use it for DVD Video, but I have it on my laptop for everything else and it has always worked.

Tim, CDBurnerXP and Deepburner are freeware with no ads. I believe burn4free has adware so i'd avoid it. You should also try cdrtfe which is open source. It can be found here http://home.arcor.de/kerberos002/cdrtfe/index_en.html

There are many ways to measure success. You just have to find your own yardstick.

How about Folder2ISO and ImgBurn? Both free and good.

That's CDRecord based and works just fine with my Pioneer drives. I'm a big fan of burnatonce, which is a similar app, but the new LiteOn LiteScribe drive keeps giving error messages back that say something like "This drive doesn't do Cue Files".

The LiteOn drive works just fine with ImgBurn. I wish ImgBurn had some way to construct a *.ISO AND burn it.

    I'll give CDBurnerXP a try.

P.S. - Both the LightScribe technology and the LiteOn burner were disappointing. I don't recommend either!

  12. Sorry to bring this one back from the grave.

Gunslinger - If you dont recommend CDBurnerXP Pro for DVD what do you recommend?

I had been using Nero for years and years, but my HD got corrupted a few days ago and I had to reinstall everything. I have my old Nero 6 licensed, but installed a Nero7 demo and cried once I saw the destruction it did to my PC. Nero 7 comes with so much prepackaged garbage that I had to uninstall it to get reid of its search tools and other garbage, I even did a customized install and didnt select that trash and it still installed. So I wont be using this bloatware.

I was going to go back to using Nero 6 but figured Id do a search for subs/alts on this forum. If CDBurnerXP does what I need it to - burn music, vcd, kvcd, dvd, kdvd, data dvd/cd, bootable discs etc at a comparble speed to Nero then Ill switch if not, ill stick to Nero. Id rather use one program for CD/DVD but if its better to use two different kinds thats fine.

    Thanks!

When it comes to burning (not conversion/creation) CDBurnerXP does all Nero ever did. It does however not do Video DVD, for which ImgBurn 2 is the unbeaten champion anyway.

Imgburn 2.1.0.0 can create a image just point to the dir you have your files. An image will be created

  15. What about Ashampoo burner? Looks like Nero used to.

I rarely burn music CD's as I have an ipod, tho I do burn KVCD's quite frequently so that will be a requirement. A majority of my burning is either data, video, or bootable DVD's, so the app should have extensive DVD capabilities. Nero does all I need and more, way too much more which is why im thinking its time for a change.

Ill take a look at imgburn and see if its any good.

    Thanks!

Burn KVCD shouldn't be a problem. Author KVCD is, but that's not a task for the burner app anyway, IMO.
