We record conferences and like to have DVD's available soon after the last session. Currently we used DVD hardrive recorders but are not happy with the menus. I know it is possible to encode directly to mpeg2 and import those into a DVD author so the question I pose to y'all is what hardware, software and procedure might we follow to be successful.
I have tested some solutions with mixed success, such as MainConcept capture to mpeg2. Using a Xeon 3.0 Ghz with 2GB of ram the audio was choppy, using the defaut dv setting it was fine encoding to avi then converting to mpeg2.
I have seen some hardware encoders but would like to hear from the community as to the best way to solve this problem.
Thanks!

Personally I use a DVD recorder as my capture device then I re-author with TDA to create new menus. I rip the DVD with DVDDecrypter in ifo mode, edit with MVW if necessary, author with TDA.

Have a look at Ulead DVD Workshop. It can encode to mpeg during capture and you could also have some preset menus already written ready to go. The encoder doesn't do a bad job as long as you keep the length per DVD down (no more than an hour per disc). There's a 30 day free trial you can download from www.ulead.com.
