  1. ok ,this is my first atempt. i took an avi, encoded to vcd mpeg1,then used nero5.5 to burn as a vcd, on the disk it created folders, in the folder \mpegav their is my movie, avseq01.dat I can open this with media player and it works fine but on a sony stand alone dvd (it says vcd right on the faceplate) it wont evan see the disk. have i missed a step? or do i need to do something with the player? can the dvd see the file in a folder?thanks

  2. your dvd player most likely does not read cdr/cdrw disks.

  3. That's right.

Unfortunately, many people don't understand that VCD compatibility HAS NOTHING to do with CD-R/W compatibility. If you player doesn't say that it can play CD-R or CD-RW media, then it wasn't designed to do so. Those players that are designed to read CD-R and CD-RW media will have this fact in the manual.

If you have one of those players that don't play CD-R or CD-RW media, you may still be able to find a brand of media that does work. It comes down to you experimenting with different brands. CD-RW often works better in these cases.
