  1. I have had the best results with Verbatim MCC003/004 and YUDEN000T02/03 media so far as I'm sure most people have.

I have also tested some RICOHJPNR03's and the quality scans showed a very satifactory result.

For writing to DVD+/-R disc's I use a LG GSA-4167B with the latest firmware DL13.

It would be interesting to know which media works best with your DVD Writer and what firmware you are currently using?

I just buy whatever is on sale. I've only had a few bad discs over the last several years I've been burning dvds. I've had success with nonamers and namebrand discs.

I use Verbatium-MCC/MKM as well as Fuji-TY, and have used a few Memorex-RICHOJPN(which I never had a problem with)

Used on both a Benq 1620(FW-G7P9) and HP 300i(FW-3.20)

    TYG02 (DVD-R) - NEC ND-3550a (1.05 firmware) and LG-4163B (A1.05)

    RITEK D01 (DVD+R DL) NEC ND-3550a (1.05 firmware)

Too many others to count right now, these are my current favorites.

  6. I forgot to mention that I also bought some Verbatim (Taiyo Yuden) TYG03's very recently,a very good mix of TY dye with the added benefit of Advanced AZO+.

They are the best DVD-R's I have EVER got my hands on!

I'm glad SVP stocks them as I cant find them on any other UK website.

TY or Verbatim. Always had very good results with either one.

  9. I prefer Taiyo Yuden in the 8X category (TYG02 and YUDEN..T02). The T02's are the best media I have ever encountered. I have never found a drive it performs poorly with.

I would have to go with MCC004 and MCC 03RG20 in the 16x category. I have been slightly disappointed with TYG03 and I have yet to try the T03's. The T03's have not been available long here in the US.

Without question the DVD+R DL goes to MKM001/003. Nothing even compares in that category in my mind.

  10. I'll second the TYG02.

While I prefer YUDEN DVD+R or MCC DVD-R/DVD+R, I'll honestly use anything in that list. All 6 of those work well.

Interesting poll. I hope it gets at least 100 votes.

Thanks for the kind comments lordsmurf.

I've been browsing/reading the updated sections on your website and have found it to be very informative (The older sections I have learnt a lot from also)
I think I have gained a lot more knowledge.

  14. Hi all,

Thought I'd add my two bob worth too. Through experience my Pioneer 108 Burner performed as follows

DVD Brand - Successful burns / total discs bought

    Sony DVD +R 4.7 GIG - 15 / 15
    Verbatim DVD +R 4.7 GIG - 3 / 8
    Imation DVD +R 4.7 GIG - 0 / 3
    TDK DVD +R 4.7 GIG - 4 / 5
    Shantiro DVD +R 4.7 GIG - 1 / 9

All discs have been burned at 4X speed, as I feel very much that higher speeds can be unreliable. Sony seem to be the best, as Imation and Shantiro are junk. The inferior quality brands seem to play fine at first. They will then suddently just stop playing. Also with many of the bad discs, my Sony DVD player will not even register that there is anything on the discs at all.

    Hope this helps.

I bought my last TY 16X for only a few pennies more that the Prodisc 16X that I previously used. I had no problems with either media, but the TY was packaged better and just seemed to be better quality. I burn it all at 16X and no coasters in 100+ burns.

I have never seen a TY disc in a store so all I ever buy is Fuji discs from K-Mart. They have all been either Fujidisc or Prodisc.

The first discs I bought were Ritek and Ridata G05 DVD-R and every single DVD burn was a coaster. about 30 in all. They work fine for data discs but not for DVD.

All the Fuji discs have produced successful burns for me, including the 8x Ritek G03 that are packaged as 8x Fuji DVD+R that I bought my brother for his birthday from CompUSA (I believe).

I always use TYG02 or MCC for myself. Some of my customers actually have fewer problems with Prodisc. ???

  20. Yuden DVD+R (8X, Sony branded), best media I've ever used. Backed up my whole library with these with my NEC 3520 (firmware 3.05) I hope the Yuden 16X media is as good, down to my last 100 blanks.

I buy a majority of my 8x + disc at K-Mart as well and all Fuji. If you look for the spindles that
have a scalloped ridge around the bottom (Made in Japan - YUDEN000T02), as opposed to the smooth surfaced ones (Made in Tawian - RICOJPN) you'll find your TY's.

Sorry to have thread jacked so my results are EXCELLENT with both the YUDEN000T02 and the RICOJPNs Fuji + 8x's burnt at 12x or higher with my BENQ.

If not in a pinch, I'd always buy the TGYO2's,
    from SupermediaStore.com.
But I never pass up a sale of MIJ made DVD-R Sony's
via Pricematch to Wal-Mart, which is the only merchant
still stocking MIJ Sony in my area.
    ;-P
The Sony DVD-Rs i've gotten as of late have NOT been TY,
but have been actually SONY, but still better with less than 3%
    coaster per 50 pack.

For local off sale, I stick with Target carried or ( 2nd preferred)
Circuit City carried TDK DVD-Rs(TTH02/TTG02) MIT media.

Ritek(RITEK-R03-02) for my +R's(as long as they are the older 8x version) and Taiyo Yuden for my -R.
