So when you author your own discs what time do you use for your chapter markers? I always use 5 minutes. I use the auto insert 5 minute chapter feature in tmpgenc dvd author. And now that I have my settop liteon dvd recorder I leave it on 5 minutes as well. Its a comfortable time to use. That way for an hour show you can hop to a scene quickly but not miss too much of a segment.

    What interval do you use?

  5. For TV series, at the commercials, TMPGEnc automatically inserts a chapter after editing out the commercials. On the standalone recording movies, 10 minutes. 5 minutes makes too many chapters for me.

  7. For television shows I usually put chapters at the commercial breaks. For other recordings I create auto chapters at scene breaks using DVDlab Pro. I set the number of chapters and scene sensitivity based on the source material.

For recordings made from LaserDisc I manually duplicate the LD chapters.

    I voted for OTHER ...

I use TMPGEnc DVD Author and it has a feature where you can pick the number of chapters you want to use and it will then space them evenly over the running time of the video.

For 30 minute TV shows I use 6 chapters. For 60 minute TV shows I use 12 chapters. For 2 hour TV shows and for most movies I use 24 chapters. If the movie is very long and 24 chapters leave more than 5 minutes between chapters then I'll up the chapters another 6 from 24 to 30

So I try to make sure there is no more than 5 minutes (or less) between chapters.

For client work, or for personal work of value, I put chapter stops as dictated by the footage.

For quick and dirty stuff, I use the auto-chapter function in DLP set to 22 chapters for 90 minutes or longer, less if shorter.
