  1. Hey there,
I've just began a project of importing quite a bit of streaming video from a DV Camera, to my PC, with intention to burn it all to DVD. I don't really know which codec will suit me best to transform all the videos first. I need them as small as possible but codecs such as Divx 5.05 are not any good beacuse the quality is just too bad. I guess quality is more important to me, but still I rather burn as little discs as I can.
    Thanks for the help

You say you want the videos on DVD. Does that mean you want them to play on regular DVD players? If so, you don't have much of a choice of codecs as the DVD spec calls for MPEG video only. Or are you just planning on storing them on DVD's as data files?

Are you using a camcorder for passing the video through, as from another source, such as a VCR or are you transferring the video from a DV tape to the computer? Either way if it's in DV format, you need to transfer it that way. You don't really have any choice as that's the output.

Or is it a Hi-8 or some format other than DV?

Or are you attempting to convert a DV stream 'on the fly' to a different format?

DV should be transferred though a Firewire/1394 port or you will lose quite a bit of quality. If so, it's about 13GB per hour of video. After the transfer, you can convert it to anything you want. If your final destination is a standard DVD, as mentioned, you need to convert to MPEG.

You might want to clarify what your process is.

    You need MPEG2 Encoder.

    With VERY low bitrate.
