Post a link to one on a site then. Specifically: Find me a 3.5" USB HDD enclosure, that can both Interface AND Fully power the HDD through 1 USB cable connection.Originally Posted by ps2daddy
Seriously, i would be curious to see one since you insist they exist. I think it would be neat![]()

This works fine through usb 2 only no power cable required
http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=A-UI-25M4&cat=CAS
2.5 in drives have smaller power requirements can be run strictly from usb cable
Here is a cable I use from time to time on laptop hds to use on desktop machines with no power cable (usb cable only)

I have a version 9 infinity modded ps2 that I did myself
(I actually just run the hdadvanced program with my memory card no disk required only network adaptor and hd)
We have some people with soldering skills and creative abilities around here that are not just limited to simple out of the box solutions just pointing out as other options
Its much more inexpensive to me to mod a ps2 with a hd, network adaptor and psone game and I can make any non modded ps2 do the same thing without paying for the hdadvanced disk with an old fat ps2, takes about 15mins
I can solder chips into psones, ps2's, xboxes and gamecubes but I can also mod ps2's gamecubes, xbox, psps, nintendo DS's, and xbox 360's without soldering one chip -

Meh fine if your happy with your method. -

Actually if you have a slim ps2 already that doesnt suck
Also there would not be any other speed issues from using a laptop drive the usb 1.0 is the limiting factor in that case also the laptop drive case would be smaller and as I said before you dont need a power cable in essence a laptop drive would be more idea for the situation witha slim ps2
Also
Not true not more expensive
#1 I dont have to pay $25-$35 for the disk since I use the elf from the disk
#2 My chip cost me $35 Matrix infinity
#3 I installed it for free its mine
#3 I can mod an unlimited number of playstation 2's with no extra cost
#4 I can play dvd-rs if I choose to do so an also run the divx player, play mp3's have, ftp capability and a few other things ( I can also make the ps2s without the modhip do this also)
Takes me 15min to program a memory card and set it up on a non modded ps2 then it would work same ways as if you had the hdadvanced disk
stick in the psone disk you progammed the exploit for and boom!!!
The loader menu popus and you choose hdadvanced program and (it is the full progam you have with the HD advanced disks) bam!!
(For me I call it the gift that keeps on giving)
What else can you do with your $25-35 disk other than play games off the HD!
This works best for my situation I think the hard drive advance is great on a older ps2 and the easiest way to play your backups however the memory card route is cheaper and more functional as long as you have a memory card and a psone which most people have at least one and if you know someone with a modded ps2 your dont have to pay for a disk and wait for it to come!
There is always more than one way to skin a cat you just have to use what works best for your situation. I never said my way was the best nor am I trying to convince others of this just pointing out alternate solutions to same problem
I assume you dont solder and you dont want to spend time in researching memory card stuff so that works for you
Enjoy! -
Heh whenever i try to stop replying to this silly thread you give me ANOTHER reason to do so....

I like the HDadvanced I think its great!
For me I just think if you run it from the memory card you can do so much more and its is the hdadvanced progam that you are installing from the cd
Its one of the 4-5 other useful program to run off the memory card
I still install modchips too though
Plus when I'm finished they can do just more than just backup the games to their hd
Works for my situation -

And no, it's still not "TWICE THE WIRES" no matter how many time you say it, a stock ps2 has at least 3 wires, include a 2nd controller, a network cable, now were up to 5 wires, adding a external HDD add's at the most, 2 more wires, on my calculator that does not add up to "TWICE AS MANY WIRES" double the wires how ever you want to state it 8) and i don't even have an external HDD, just thought about getting one, but i'm not lazy or overweight so i can get my ass up and slide a disc in
