What is the best software or precise video cutting without decompression/recompression and without quality loss? If there are several equally good then I am looking for the simplest one. I'm looking for something that will help me cut out parts of a video.
    thanks!

Unless you cut only on I frames (every few seconds) there will be reconstruction of the frames around the edit point.

Best is probably Mainconcept's Adobe Premiere Pro plug-in that allows most Premiere effects to work on a psuedo MPeg2 timeline.

I'm sorry I couldn't specify my needs enough. I'm looking for a simple piece of software like this one (SolveigMM Video Splitter). Premiere Pro probably can do what I need, but it feels like somewat of an overkill for my needs.

The only problem with "SolveigMM Video Splitter" is that one rewiever on the tools part of this site wrote that it jumps in 3 second intervalls when cutting, so it isn't precise.

I have had the same problem with "Steeper".

I've tried VirtualDiub 1.3c as well but it wouldn't open my video files.
"Easy Video Splitter" crashed when I tried to split files.
"All Video Spliiter" could only make .mpeg output (with quality loss I presume)
"Ultra Video Splitter" says I don't have the appropriate codecs for the video files (but I can play them otherwise and I can cut them with "Steeper").

So now I don't have many more applications left to try.

All I'm looking for is an application that can:
    - cut .asf/wma files precisly to 0.1 second
    - does that without any quality loss

Is Adobe Premiere Pro my best shot? Is there no other less complex appliaction that can fulfill these modest requirements?

    thanks!

    I'm getting desperate![/url]

You didnt say what type of video file you are editing.

Womble is a frame accurate editor - works well.

How do you mean what type? .asf/.wmv? (not wma as I wrote in my previous post)

The content of the videos is instructinal. I'm trying to cut clips so that I can collect them in kind of a "best of" folder.

EDIT: Womble seems to be for .mpeg

What is a K-frame? Maybe Steeper has been jumping to the closest K-frame?

I'm trying Solveig now. It seems to be working perfectly. I guess sixth is a good luck charm!
